You've probably received an invitation to a Facebook event before , or even actively participated in one yourself. However, you might not know exactly how they're created or how to use them. Well, that's what we're here for. Make yourself comfortable.
What are Facebook events
Events are one of the most popular tools on Facebook and also a tremendously useful resource if you know how to use it correctly. With them you can organize meetings with people, sending them all the information related to an event that takes place in real life.
There is a limit, yes, to the number of people that a single person can invite and it is 500 guests per event (to avoid spam).
Events allow you to communicate specific information to selected individuals, enabling them to confirm their attendance and participation. When creating an event, keep in mind that it can be public or private, and once this setting is chosen, its privacy cannot be changed .
How to create and edit an event on Facebook
As we said, there are two types of events on the social network: public or private. The former can be seen by anyone and can be searched for, even if they are not on your friends list, while the latter is not.
These are the steps to follow for each of them:
How to create a public event
- Enter Facebook from your PC and in the News section, click on Events, in the menu on the left.
- Once inside, click on the blue button «+ Create event", in the left column.
- Click Public Event, then "Next."
- Enter the name, location, date, time, and description of the event.
- Type and select the keywords associated with your public event. These will serve to better recommend it to people who are interested in the topic that your event deals with.
- Choose who can edit and post to the event and once decided, click "Create".
- Once done, you'll be taken to the event, where you can send invites, add a cover photo or video, share posts, and edit event details.
How to create a private event
- Access Facebook from your PC and in the news section, click on Events, in the menu on the left.
- Click “+ Create event” on the left.
- Click “Create Private Event” and then “Next”. Only invitees will see the event. Once you've created a private event, you won't be able to set it to public later.
- Enter the name, location, date, time, and description of the event.
- Click Create. You'll be taken to the event, where you can send invites, add a cover photo or video, share posts, and edit any event details you'd like.
How to edit an event
In case that once created, you want to edit an event, this is what you should do:
- In the news feed, click Events in the menu on the left.
- Select the event you want to edit.
- Click "Edit" on the right.
- You can change the name, location, time, description, and even the other organizers of the event.
- Once everything you want has been changed, click “Update”.
Creators of a public event can change the date and time after the event is created, though Facebook warns that they may not be able to if the event is only a few days away.
Invite people to an already created event
In case you have created an event on Facebook and later want to add more people to invite it, you can do it without problems. Depending on whether it is a public or private event, the steps are slightly different:
Invite people to a public event
- Enter Facebook and go to the event that interests you.
- Click "Share" at the top right or below the cover photo.
- Click on “Invite friends” and search for the people you want to invite (or filter by groups, location…).
- Click on your friends' names to invite them one at a time, or select all if you're in a group.
- Click “Send Invitations”.
Invite people to a private event
- Go to the event you want.
- Click "Invite" under the cover photo. You can search for people by name, email address, or phone number.
- Click on your friends' names to invite them one by one, or filter by groups, location, or even past events.
- Click “Send Invitations”.
