Control what kind of notifications you receive from Tik Tok

Tik Tok - Notifications

TikTok is a social network that's becoming increasingly popular. Its success seems unstoppable, and more and more users are creating new accounts on this platform to watch and share new short videos. However, TikTok is a bit more intrusive than the networks we were previously familiar with. An example of this is immediately apparent upon opening the app, as the first video will start playing with sound. This also applies to notifications . Less than ten minutes after registering and installing the app, you'll already be receiving an incredible barrage of notifications urging you to upload videos or reminding you not to miss someone's new post. If TikTok notifications are taking over your phone screen, don't worry. You can perfectly adjust the notifications you want to receive from TikTok. This way, you can get rid of the minor chaos it often creates on your phone. If you want to learn how, keep reading below:

TikTok notifications

When you sign up to a new social network through a mobile app, it will most likely come with a series of default notifications. Sometimes they are just what is necessary to be informed of what you want about the platform, however, on other occasions, there is an oversaturation of information that you do not know how to contain so that it stops appearing on the screen.

That's exactly what happens with TikTok: when you create a user account on their app, countless notifications are automatically activated on your phone, which can be quite overwhelming and sometimes leave you wondering how to disable them. The social network notifies you of every possible interaction with your profile, updates to published videos (including suggestions you might like), and even live streams. If you're a regular user, we're sure you won't appreciate receiving so many notifications. Before showing you how to disable them, we think it's helpful to understand the different types of notifications on TikTok. This way, once you know what each one does, you can decide whether to keep them enabled or disabled in each specific case.

Types of notifications offered by TikTok

We list and briefly explain the types of notices you can receive from the social network application:

Interactions:

  • : the likes you receive from people who view your content.
  • Comments: the public messages (comments) that users leave on your posts.
  • New followers: As the name suggests, it alerts you every time someone new starts following you.
  • Mentions: if someone mentions you with your username, you get a notice.

Posts:

  • Direct messages: it's about the private messages you receive from someone. If a contact writes to you, you will see a notice on the screen.
  • Show message preview: will block the preview of the messages you receive.

video updates

  • Video of accounts you follow: They notify you when new content has been uploaded in all the accounts you follow.
  • video suggestions: one of the most annoying. These are notifications from the social network itself with suggestions of videos that they think you will like so that you can enter and see them.

LIVE

  • Recommended LIVE Videos: has little mystery. You receive a notice when one of your contacts decides to make a live video on TikTok or even one that TikTok itself thinks might interest you.

Other

  • people you may know: With this option we will allow TikTok to send us notifications about people who may know our contacts. That is, notifications in chains of friends.
  • Custom upgrades and more

As we mentioned, all of these are enabled by default, so shortly after you start using the app, you'll encounter quite a few notifications that you might not want. Want to remove some of them? It's very easy; just access the app's preferences (on either Android or iOS).

Inbox and push notifications

However, while the sheer volume of notifications TikTok generates can be overwhelming, things actually become much simpler once you understand that these alerts all end up in what the social network calls your Inbox. This is where you can view any notifications generated by your account activity. From there, we suggest you filter your notifications to see exactly what you want, excluding anything you don't find interesting or can save for later.

To make that selection of what you want TikTok to notify you, you just have to:

  • Go to Inbox.
  • Click on the option All activity.
  • Choose (filter) content by , Comments, Mentions, Followers o By TikTok.

Monetize TikTok, all the options

However, if you don't want to wait to open the app and prefer TikTok to notify you in real time as updates arrive on your profile, you can always choose push notifications . These can also be customized so you don't receive them all gradually, dripping continuously throughout the day. Here, too, you can choose which notifications to show, hiding (or rather, silencing) those you don't need or prefer to keep in the background.

So, to customize those push notifications as well , you must:

  • Click on your Profile, in the lower right corner of the screen.
  • Click on the icon of the three lines that you will see in the upper right corner.
  • Click on the option Settings and privacy.
  • Select the Notifications push from TikTok.
  • Select the type of notifications that you would like to receive from all those that appear on the list, selecting only the ones that you believe to be the most important or priority.

Obviously, if you don't want to see anything outside the application again, you just have to block them all, which in certain situations we recommend you do. Especially if you are at work, or studying, and complete concentration on what you are doing is necessary.

Block TikTok notifications from mobile

In the event that you want to block all those root notifications, you should know that you can block them directly through your smartphone whether you have an Android phone or an iPhone. The app will not let you cut them completely, so we will do it ourselves from the system.

Block TikTok notifications on Android

If you own a phone with Google's operating system ( Android ), you will need to:

  • Access the settings app of your mobile
  • From here, go down until you find a section that is related to applications or that directly mentions notifications. Depending on each brand, model or manufacturer, this menu could be called in a different way.
  • Once here, you will have to access said notifications section, or search for the name of the TikTok app and enter it.
  • Now, being within TikTok's own configuration, you will be able to see a section of the app's own notifications. Click here to enter.
  • Finally, this section is the one that controls the "root" notices that this application can launch. And, as you can see, you can adjust those notifications that you do not want to see separately. Although, if what you want is for all of them to disappear, you just have to deactivate the “All TikTok notifications” option to say goodbye to them.

Block TikTok notifications on iPhone (iOS)

On the other hand, if your mobile phone is an iPhone (any model), the steps to follow are these:

  • Access the settings section of your mobile.
  • Swipe through the menus until you reach the Notifications section and enter it.
  • Now, scroll down until you locate the specific TikTok app. Click on it to enter.
  • This menu that you see now is the one that manages all the notifications that you receive from this social network on your phone. Therefore, this is where you can adjust which of them and how you will receive them.
  • In the event that you do not want to receive any notifications from TikTok, you just have to deactivate the first option that with the name of "Allow notifications"

This simple way is how you can control all aspects of the notifications that TikTok sends to your smartphone. Whether you make the settings through the social network itself, or if you configure it from the internal settings of the phone. What has been easier than it seemed?
