One of the most legendary titles in tennis history is Pong , which arrived on the Atari console in 1972. The gameplay was based on a two-dimensional screen with a striped line defining half the playing field. Two small paddles, perpendicular to the center of the court, were responsible for passing the small, square, pixelated ball. If the ball passed behind one of these paddles, the opponent scored a point.
Despite its simplicity, this title was an absolute success, especially when it made the leap from the Atari to arcades, allowing many more users to play.
Match Point
Although the previous title was clearly a video game dedicated to this sport, the one considered to be the first tennis game is Match Point . A title that arrived in 1984 for the ZX Spectrum.
It was the first that printed a wave of realism to the gameplay, with a track through which our character and his opponent moved.
